Our Anger management Program is helpful for individuals struggling with managing negative emotions and who act out in angry outbursts. This program focuses on decreasing aggressive behaviors, de-escalating emotional outbursts, and improving relationships. This program offered on an individual basis or in a group. The program is 8-weeks long and satisfies court-order requests.
At Professional Psychological Services, we provide therapy to individuals involved in the legal system and/or for victims of families involved in the legal system. We serve individuals who are incarcerated or have been incarcerated, committed to a forensic psychiatric facility, undergoing a criminal/civil case, or are on probation or parole. Forensic therapists may provide therapy to criminal offenders, with two simultaneous goals: relieving symptoms of mental illness and reducing the risk of recidivism.
Psychological testing is offered to children, adolescents, and adults to help with obtaining an understanding of your social, emotional, behavioral, and/or personality functioning. Testing can help clarify symptoms and diagnosis. The process entails interview(s) with the client, family members, and/or other necessary individuals, behavioral observations, administering appropriate tests, and a review of records. You will be provided with a comprehensive report with recommendations.
ADHD evaluations are offered to children, adolescents, and adults. Symptoms of ADHD is generally categorized by, inattentiveness (difficulty concentrating and focusing), hyperactivity and impulsive behavior, and executive functioning (e.g. attention, working memory, reasoning, planning, decision making, and problem solving). The purpose of an ADHD evaluation is to determine if symptoms indicate are consistent with a diagnosis ADHD or if symptoms point to another condition or diagnosis such as anxiety, depression, or other emotional/behavioral condition. The process includes interview(s), behavioral observations, administering appropriate tests to the individual, parent/informant/teachers, and a review of records. You will be provided with a comprehensive report with recommendations.
Cognitive testing explains the strengths and weaknesses of an individual compared to their peers. Cognitive testing in children is essential for educational planning and assisting parents in structuring and understanding their child’s learning style. Cognitive testing for adults can assess their problem-solving abilities, learning skills, and critical thinking to determine their strengths in their work and college life. Full IQ tests are given, and a report will be provided.
A Psychosexual Evaluation is typically requested due to a court proceeding because an indivdual has been alleged or charged with a sexual offense. They may also be requested from defense attorneys, prosecutors, and social service organizations, or can be ordered by the court as part of a child protective services case. These evaluations are performed by a Licensed Psychologist and Certified Sex Offender Treatment Provider (CSOTP). A Psychosexual Evaluation is able to help determine if an individual is at risk for committing a sexual offense, and recommend treatments to help diminish that risk. This process is done through interviewing the individual, interviewing collateral sources, a review of records, psychological testing, and risk assessment. You will be provided with a comprehensive report with recommendations.
There are times when individuals believe that they are in need of a Psychosexual Evaluation, however, if there has not been an allegation or charge of a sexual offense, you do not need one. For individauls who are aiming to gain assistance with diagnosing a problematic sexual behavior and treatment recommendations, they can still be evaluated, however, it will be under a regular diagnostic assessment and through psychological testing.

You will be provided with a comprehensive report with recommendations.
A Comptency to Stand Trial Evaluation is a court-ordered evaluation to determine if the defendant understands the nature and the purpose of the legal proceedings and can effectively cooperate with counsel in his/her defense. To understand the proceedings, a defendant must be able to comprehend the charges against him/her and the penalties if convicted. He/she must also have an understanding of courtroom procedures and key members of the courtroom. To cooperate with their counsel, he/she must be able assist in their legal strategy, be able to recall and relate pertinent facts about their case, and be able to testify in court.
Substance Use/Abuse Evaluation is a comprehensive evaluation that assesses the symptoms present in the individual to determine whether these constitute an addictive disorder and/or co-occurring disorder. These evaluations are often court-ordered and/or recommended by attorneys or probation office due to an alcohol or drug-related charge. This process is done through interviewing the individual, a review of records, and standardized specific testing. You will be provided with a comprehensive report with recommendations.
Supervision is offered to individuals who are seeking clinical hours toward licensure (LCP, LCSW, and Psy.D./Ph.D.). We also offer supervision and training for individuals seeking hours and training toward obtaining a Certified Sex Offender Treatment Provider (CSOTP) certification in Virginia. Additionally, consultation is available to service agencies and professionals in the area of clinical and forensic psychology.
